Turns out neversoft, who were the first company to support PS2 online multiplayer (yes it was available somewhere) are now not supporting the online component of the PS3.
They were planning a Tony Hawks Multiplayer game, but Sony won’t give them all the relevant software libraries (read: sony has yet to finish the relevant software libraries) and so multiplayer is unprogrammable.
So much for the online service to compete with Xbox Live.
Here is an analogy that suits the current market situation.
Next gen throws a house party.
Xbox 360 comes over. people like him. he tells good jokes, he knows a few party tricks.
Wii shows up a bit later (he had to work late). He can juggle.
Ps3 sits outside, looking in the window. Anytime someone does something cool, he bangs on the window and shouts in "yeah I can do that, but I do it way better!". People try to ignore him.
….They invited phantom, but the email bounced.
