Sony has no friends

Turns out neversoft, who were the first company to support PS2 online multiplayer (yes it was available somewhere) are now not supporting the online component of the PS3.

They were planning a Tony Hawks Multiplayer game, but Sony won’t give them all the relevant software libraries (read: sony has yet to finish the relevant software libraries) and so multiplayer is unprogrammable.

So much for the online service to compete with Xbox Live.

Here is an analogy that suits the current market situation.

Next gen throws a house party.
Xbox 360 comes over. people like him. he tells good jokes, he knows a few party tricks.
Wii shows up a bit later (he had to work late). He can juggle.
Ps3 sits outside, looking in the window. Anytime someone does something cool, he bangs on the window and shouts in "yeah I can do that, but I do it way better!". People try to ignore him.

….They invited phantom, but the email bounced.

Gamespot getting hard assed with reviews?

A lot of people, including myself, have given gamespot flak in the past for their inflated ratings (7.0 for boiling point – you can almost feel the money changing hands)
but it seems lately they’re not afraid to say when a game sucks.

Or they’re trying to fight back against the criticism.

A few recent scores:

PC
Bad Day LA 3.0
Big Oil: Build an Oil Empire 3.0
Barrow Hill: Curse of the Ancient Circle 2.6
World War II Combat: Iwo Jima 2.0

XBox360
Bomberman: Act Zero 2.9

PS2
Dance Factory 4.3
Pac-Man World Rally 5.0
D1 Grand Prix 4.3
Pirates: Legend of the Black Buccaneer 3.9

DS
Dino Master 2.4

Wii Launch Dets

Gamespot has some Wii launch stuff including a list of launch titles, videos and more.

The official real final official honest legit really real confirmed price is $249

Which works out as €199 for us. Woohoo!

Here’s hoping they don’t pull an MS and try and convince us all that $249 = €249.

Deja Wii

I’m having deja vu…

seriously.

yesterday, the shock announcement was made that the PS3 would be delayed until the year 2007!

And today, the net is all abuzz with rumours that the Wii may be priced at a mere £149!

something tells me i’ve read this already….

any day now we’ll hear that Assassins Creed might not be a PS3 exclusive afterall, that there might be a HD-DVD drive for the Xbox360, and that the US thinks Iran has the bomb.

Score one for the indie crowd

On the indie games front, two feelgood points awarded today

telltale games have set a date (october 17th) and started promotions for the new series of Sam N Max*

Doublefine, new home of Tim Schafer and producers of Psychonauts have announced they’re working on new goodies. All they’ve said is that its an original property, not a psychonauts sequel. They have however, in the same breath, hinted that such a sequel is on the cards.

*Its kinda wierd to call it a ‘new series’. Some sites are calling it a ’season’. Its episodic gaming, so thats where all the TV metaphors are coming from. Its a good thing – I think we’ll see a lot more studios, especially indie studios, going with the episodic model over the next few years, while EA et al will stick to ‘blockbuster’ titles. like NFL street 2008, or Madden 2007, or NBA street 2008, or NHL 2009, or BigFootballGameNumer27

Is This The Nintendo Puu Controller?

No, not really.

But the idea of monkeyballing in this thing sounds like a whole lot of fun.
