This is an essential replacement for quicktime, on any system. It gets rid of the sucky quicktime player and allows you to play .MOV files in media player (or media player classic, an excellent video player which it optionally installs)
It also lets you do almost all the things that the Pro version of quicktime will do, most importantly save MOV files to disk.

Apologies for not updating this blog in the last while, I’ve been snowed under with college work lately.

TaskBar Shuffle
Yet another for the ’should have been in windows’ pile. TaskBar Shuffle is an sickeningly silly concept – it allows you to drag around items in the XP taskbar and change the order.
So simple. So obvious. So why is it not in windows by default?

SongBird
This is a new media player based on mozilla. It sounds a bit wierd at first, but its worth a look. Basically, it places itself in the market as an OpenSource alternative to iTunes, playing media and fetching DRM free stuff from various free sources around the net. It integrates Streaming and PodCasting very nicely, and has a built in web-browser.
There are some problems, i’ll admit. Its only on version 0.2 at the moment, an early beta, so its got a few kinks and bugs. It didn’t pick up all the music in my music folder for instance, and I had a real hard time sorting bookmarks and my library.
Its still worth checking out tho, for the podcasting/podcatching features alone!
