New Years Resolution

It’s a brand new year!

Along with a brand new layout for this blog, I’ve decided to also embark on an ambitious project: To create a new MVP or proof-of-concept app every month this year.

One a month? That’s not sustainable!

I’m not talking about building massively complex things - just a usable proof of concept. I’ve built small apps countless times over the years, and these days it’s even faster than ever, with AI to help scaffold, write tailwind classes etc.

A few years back I took part in “1PPM” - a similar initiative, to create one side project per month. However, after March 2017 the project abruptly stopped, and no pull-requests were accepted. I tried to carry on under my own power, but I had two very young children and was in the midst of a career change. Things are a lot calmer now, and although I build side projects all the time, committing myself to something bold like 12 in a calendar year is something I hope will drive me to do even more, become even more efficient and pragmatic, and a faster and better developer.

So… what are you going to build?

I’m not sure yet. I can absolutely sustain the inspiration part - I probably have 30+ app ideas I want to build, and no doubt I’ll come up with more before the year is out, but I don’t know which ones I’ll flesh out just yet. I have some solid leads - I want to build an auto-sorting shopping list, an eink dashboard, a few photo apps - but I’m not sure what order I’ll do things in. There’s also a chance I’ll start into something and it just won’t work.

I’ll post updates here as I release each one.
